CURRENT WORK

RELEASE THE PLAY - R&D AND WORKSHOP

Blown Fuse Theatre are casting for the upcoming workshop and development of their new play ‘RELEASE’, co-created with writer Kate Austen and poet Sadie Davidson.

We have been fortunate to work with women who have been through the criminal justice system and from gathering their testimonials we are raising the question, is prison as an institution working for women?

The project is gratefully supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

In Her Shoes - Installation

Joan’s enchanted shoe shop has appeared overnight and portals through time are hidden in the shoeboxes on the shelves.
Will you take a walk In Her Shoes?

In Her Shoes is an immersive installation experience exploring the concepts of identity, stereotypes, and relationship to home.

Your 20-minute adventure begins as you step inside a shoe shop built for one.
With former Bata Shoes employee Joan as your guide, you're transported through time and along the way, you’ll meet real women from Essex, past and present.

As if by magic, the shoeboxes will transport you to the Bata Shoe Factory & Estate, the Marconi Factory, Kynochtown, and the Thames Explosive Works.

You’ll visit Zimbabwe, Jamaica, and Southend Seafront in an intimate adventure that asks you: what is an Essex Girl? Will you take a walk In Her Shoes?

In MY Shoes

A film project for Essex’s young people

A film project for young people exploring identity, home, community and self-image.

In My Shoes is a film project for young people aged 10-16 years, exploring themes such as identity, home, community, self-image, and place. In My Shoes is a companion project to our immersive audio installation In Her Shoes, touring in 2022.

We are woking with community organisations with up to 20 young people in each group. Running from March 2022, the young people will work with drama facilitator, filmmaker and teacher George Morgan and award winning director and filmmaker Jamie Weston to co-create a short film about what it means to be a young person today.

IN HER SHOES - Digital

In Her Shoes is a participatory digital project created during the pandemic and ensuing nationwide lockdown.

2021 will see the development of the digital project into an immersive theatre experience with a growing collection of Essex stories. Supported by Arts Council England and the Thurrock VSDF Fund.

MY-DENTITY

My-dentity is a research and development project exploring the concept of womxnhood in the 21st Century, engaging with womxn with diverse experience and backgrounds from Southend.

Taking place during our Time & Space residency at Metal Culture, it's an investigation into other womxn’s experiences and how they compare to our own. It is important that our work comes from a place of truth and honesty, so aim to obtain real stories to act as stimulus to ultimately devise an experiential, immersive piece of installation theatre.
